Italy is world-renoun for its delicious and varied cusine but nowhere is more deserving of this reputation than Sicily which has developed into a melting pot of eastern and western traditions.

Sicily has been under the occupation of one foreign power after another for more than 3,000 years. The Phoenicians were the first to arrive, c. 1000 BC and they were followed by the Greeks, Romans, Goths, Byzantines, Moors, Normans, Swabians, French and Spaniards. As a result Sicilian cuisine is the most interesting of all the Italian regions, with each new invasion adding another layer to an increasingly rich culinary tradition.

Feasting is still an incredibly important part of Sicilian life. None of life's milestones, birth, baptism, first communion, marriage, is considered properly marked without a substantial feast, accompanied by plenty of wine.

Little Sicily will bring this extraordinary cultural tradition to the heart of Chesham. With a mouthwatering selection of Sicilian tomato saladtraditional Sicilian recipes using the best ingredients available, Sandro Mazzola and his team will recreate the rich experience enjoyed by visitors to his splendid homeland.

However, food is only part of the story. It is the strong family culture that makes eating and drinking more theatre than simple substance. Imagine the bustling markets, the narrow alleyways with vespas and washing hanging from the balcony, the romantic and lyrical voices passing the local gossip from street to street. Entire families in the square in the balmy evenings, children playing cheerfully in anticipation of the feast to come. And everywhere the delicious smells of frying fish, sizzling meat and intoxicating pasta sauces.

Enter Little Sicily and let your imagination whisk you away to the joys of a magical island of towering volcanoes, verdant pastures and azure seas.
